In the News today - Mobile Number Portability

Since there's been a lot of hype about this particular 'historic event', you may be wondering What? and How? So here's the low-down on Mobile Number Portability. aka. MPN.

What is it?
It is a new facility that allows you to switch your user without changing your mobile number.
Can be GSM to GSM connection or CDMA to GSM connection and vice versa.

How to switch - Rules:
a) Send an SMS: PORT to 1900 from your mobile.

b) You will get an eight-digit alphanumeric code and an expiry date for that code from the current service provider. This code is called unique porting code, or UPC.

c) Fill the application in a particular format and mention the new service provider, you would like to subscribe for.

d) The new service provider will collect the information about the user from the current operator. A time period of seven days will be taken for the complete transfer of mobile number to the network of the new mobile operator.

e) As a transformation charge for the new operator the subscriber has to pay Rs. 19/-

TADAAAHHHH! And there you have it! But since Idea made such lame-ass ads about the whole thing - they don't deserve new subscribers! That's right idea! IN UR (ABHI)SHAKY FACE!

Item Numbers - Then & Now

Then - Item Nos. were all about dancing, having a good time & making the heroine jealous. The songs weren't too bad either. I wish I was born in those days.

Now - Ugh! Item nos. are all about skin shows. Heroines being skanky. Nothing graceful at all that too. The songs are total rubbish too! It is ghor kalyug!!

More you show, the more women are being objectified. I hate people who put 'item nos' to make their stupid lame-ass movies work!! Real stories don't need a half-naked girl prancing about on screen dammit!!

Wallabeehoo

To do a quick recap of the week - The CAT scores were depressing (53.13 %ile), the SNAP scores were depressing (75/180). All in all they just ruined all my plans. And what is it with IIPM? Crazy stalkers-like! I dont want a worthless piece of "degree" after i 'dream beyond IIMs'.

Busy week otherwise - assignments, projects, the usual you know. Nothing worth blogging about.

The best part of the week was definitely I-RIX 2011 (www.i-rix.in) an inter-college computer science event by our college. Best because I came to know the others are just as bad (if not worse) than us in the field of computer science. Actually no, that's partly depressing.
The quiz was good-ish. Some *facepalm* moments from the quiz:
Q. "What is the subject of the movie 'the social network'?"
A. Hacking

Q. Which web browser shares its name with a genre of music?
A. *pass* (just then someone in the audience yells 'Opera'. I'm not going to admit that person was me).

Just after the quiz master says that Mark Zuckerberg was the youngest millionaire...
Q. Who was the youngest millionaire at the age of 27?
A. *pass*

Q. Why was www.symbolics.com so famous?
A. Because it had the word 'symbol' in it.

Q. Who invented the Mouse?
A. Stephen Hawking   (WHAAAA???)
Someone in the audience said "Mickey Mouse" -_-'

Q. What was the name of the supercomputer that beat chess champion Gary Kasparov 2-1?
Audience Answer. Rajnikanth.
All in all, a good day. Got a free t-shirt too!

12th Jan, 2011

Today is the day CAT 2010 & SNAP 2010 results will be declared.
Hopes & dreams are about to be made or crushed. Let's see which category I fall into.

It's just one those days!

All I did all day was question myself. Being bloody paranoid!! What the hell is wrong with me today?? I kinna chewed up more than I could swallow. Asked for people's opinions about myself when I wasn't ready to handle them. Honesty hurts. But then sometimes, you lose sight of who is right and whose words you should completely ignore. In my case, that line got blurred. Believing people I shouldn't & Ignoring the ones I should (or maybe I'm doing it the other way around). Gaaahhh!!!!! *tears her hair out*
